When I built the 2 litre for my GTV, I found my canister to be shot.  I
haven't replaced it and am paying for it.  I don't have vacuum in my crankcase
and I can't keep the engine leak-proof.  Ungainly as it may be, I'd replace
your canister and keep it on there.
