Re: Why Alfas in Japan



One of the main reasons Japan can have Alfas and the US does not, aside from
some minor regulations, has to do with geography.

Japan is approximately the size of California and has 130 million people or
so.  You could probably cover 90% of the population likely to buy an Alfa in
Japan with only 10 dealerships, none farther away than 100 miles.  All doing
enough business to keep a large stock of parts on hand.  Here in Kansas City,
with only one and one half million people, you could dang near go 100 miles
and still be in the metropolitan area!  God forbid you should want to own an
Alfa in Springfield, only 170 miles away, the next "city" to the south!

John Justus (owned three Fiats and one Alfa when the nearest dealer was in KC,
only 210 miles away at that time)
(and Bernie, I don't want to hear how far it is to your dealership in Texas,
but it will help illustrate my point)
