Loyd,

First, all head gaskets will fail sometime in the future as all rubber bands
will break. However, since the art/science has been steadily improving fueled
by the cost of head retorques and the difficulty of assuring that the work is
in fact done, one of the major objectives of gasket manufacturers is to
develop a "No Retorque Gasket". Both the Reinz and Goetze head gaskets are of
this variety. Since the primary purpose of a retorque is to make up for the
non-recovery in the gasket materials the retorqing runs down the slippery
slope of diminishing returns. From my experience at Fel-Pro, once is enough,
except for the truely compulsive.
