Robert,
Just a comment on rear alfa springs. Be careful about rust on used =
springs. I have purchased springs that looked fine except for a little =
swelling under the plastic sheathing and found a full 1/3 of the cross =
sectional area of the metal missing due to rust. This is probably what =
had also happened to the spring that actually broke while I was driving =
but I did not look too carefully at that before throwing it away. Always =
remove the plastic and clean and paint if needed. I imagine that some of =
the reports of springs sagging over time may have resulted from the metal =
being thinner than spec due to rust.
And, as I drive my Super on DC's streets (surely the pothole capital of =
the world, due to low-bid construction and minimal maintenance), I'd be =
interested in hearing if you get a place to manufacture street-soft =
springs... But am I the only one who can barely see out of my rear-view =
mirror.???? I've put a couple hundred K on 3 supers over the years and =
even though they look level from the outside, the top of the rear window =
is barely high enough to see the road behind me, I have a set of later =
berlina springs to try next, but I'm not anxious to "modernize" the looks =
with the Milano-scrunched-rear look<g> please no flames guys!!! ... some =
of my best friends drive Milanos, really.
