Increased fuel consumption in 164S

Rob, I would appreciate if you could thell me the simptoms that led to replace
the cam axle, as i think that i have this problem in my '91 164 L too, with
the back cam.I have seen a mention about it on the 164 homepage in the
archives.Is it like a  tapping noise at irregular intervals (1 to 3 seconds) ,
at full operating temperature, that dissapears at the slightest rev?.Did the
shaft look worn on one of it's bearings? and did you have to replace any?
