Reply Ad#339 Head Gaskets

        Rich,
My first time on replacing GTV6 head gaskets took less
than 15 hours. This is really a straight forward job than only requires
that attention to details is followed through. I would not expect a
average owner to be able to replace his/her V6 head gaskets in 10 hours,
but I sure would think that 28 hours for one side is too excessive. If
you paid a so called Alfa Shop 18 hours to only replace your head
gasket, then you were robbed. There is now way that you will ever
convince me that it would take a dealer/shop that long on such a easy
job. Even checking the Alfa Flat Rate manual, there is not that much
time allowed to finish this job. I feel that you are doing a greater
disservice when you throw out such outrageous numbers to fellow
digesters. I have no extraordinary training in working on cars other
than the three years working on these cars while in college. I did not
attend a mechanics school or any other formal training. I worked on the
cars under the supervision of a very talented Alfa mechanic. I speak as
someone who learned hands on. I feel I must have learned something
right, as in my almost two years of racing I have not had a DNF. This of
course is only my two cents.
