"Gatso" is short for Gatsometer, the name of the speedcheck/camera
equipment which is used in many countries.
The name Gatsometer comes from the name of the man who invented this
equipment, Mr. Maus Gatsonides. Actually, Mr. Gatsonides died a few weeks
ago at the age of 90+.
Mr. Gatsonides was a very famous Dutch rally driver, who even once became
second at the Monte Carlo rally (with a Ford Consul!) in the fifties.
He was very inventive, he even builded some cars designed by himself and
(unfortunately for us) he also invented the Gatsometer.
His slogan was: 'Everything is possible'. Even at very high age, he joined
many Classic rallies with good result.
I met him in his favorite restaurant about two months ago, and he
said, knowing that he had a terminal disease, that this race he could not
win....
