164 Jack

What type of POS did Alfa supply for a car jack?  I had to change a tire
on my '91 164L and had the car almost up to where I could take off the
tire and the jack broke!  I guess gravity took over or something.  The
jack just unwound and the car fell to the ground!  Boy was I pissed!  

Anybody else have a similar problem?  What kind of jack should I replace
the old one with (hopefully something that will fit in my trunk).
