back + driving school

greetings,

i am back after a job change (from Netscape to a startup- -time to play the
silicon valley lottery once more...).
i also went to the skip barber racing school last weekend and wanted to post
a report
it was a blast ! i recommend it over any performance improvements or a new,
faster car. it was an eye opener. we learned about controlling skids, felt
the difference between understeer and oversteer, and generally got to throw
other people's cars around the racetrack. the dodge pickup truck was the
most fun around the wet skidpad (can you guess what happens with 240 hp,
bold rear tires, and the instructor telling you to gun in at one point in
the circle?). we also drove neons for the threshhold braking exercises, and
the highlight was driving the viper in the autocross. the last one was my
wife's favourite. i thought i knew what i was doing during the sears point
alfa club track tours, but i just relaized how much i have to learn....not
bad for a whole driving school, i learned to control a car better and the
the half a "g" that it cost could save a life or precious metal

thx
luke
