If you can get a mark on your screwdriver about half an inch above the
spark plug hole using sticky tape you can get a mark on your pulley the
exact same distance either side of TDC when the tape gets to the top of
the spark plug hole. TDC is right in the middle of these two positions.
The benifit of this method is that you aren't trying to spot a position
in the middle of the "nothing happening" zone.
