Automatic 105 series

Having read in recent Digests about auto 105 series models, the story
which I've heard on several occasions over many years is that the
automatic 2000 Berlinas were first produced in lhd form for the Italian
police who were tired of regularly replacing burnt out clutches in
manual cars.

You can imagine the conversation at the Police Station. "Eh Piero, you
want the good news or the bad news?"

"The good news is that you've got a new pursuit car, the bad news is
that it's an automatic Berlina!"

Here in the UK, about 10 or 12 rhd Berlinas were officially imported as
a trial, some of which survive today.

Just goes to show that there is so much unwritten Alfa history out
there.
