Re: Alfetta trunk lock

Two possibilities that I can think of:

1. Attempt to access the lock from the inside of the vehicle. If you can
disconnect the hinge from the package tray you will be able to get at the
bolts that secure the latch hechanism to the hatch. There may be enough
slop in the cover to allow you to leave it in place and slide your arm down
into the trunk. Remove the two bolts for the latch, tip or slide it towards
the front of the car and the hatch should pop open.

2. AKA--The distructive approach. If all else fails and you are willing to
sacrifice the lock mechanism there is another route. (You can get a
replacement from the dealer for ~$45). The lock cylinder is retained in its
sleeve by a very small metal pin. If you screw a slide hammer into the
opening where you would normally put the key and use it to tear the
cylinder out of the lock you will have access to the innerds of the latch.
Once you get the lock cylinder out look in the sleeve. You will see a small
metal bar that slides horizontally, this is what stops you from being able
to push the trunk button when it is locked. Use a screw driver to slide it
to one side. I believe the upside down U shaped notch should be to the
right when unlocked. Now just use a screw driver and push against that same
bar, but this time push in like you would normally do to open the trunk.
Presto, trunk opened.
