Halon

In the early '80s I worked for Fenwal, Inc., here in Mass. One of the =
product lines was (and is) a fire/explosion detection and supression =
system that used a chemical called Halon 1301. Immediately upon =
detecting a pressure wave (combustion creates a pressure differential) =
the system would be triggered releasing the Halon which would react =
chemically by combining with/displacing gases required for combustion =
thus extinguishing the fire. Check Fenwal out on the web.
