Re: Metal Fires

I was not going to say anything and I probably will regret this, but here it
goes. The only agant that I know of that will extinguish a metal based fire,
such as magnesium, is called metyl-x produced by the Ansul Company. This is a
compaound that melts and binds itself to the metal making it such where oxygen
is then depleted. In actuality sand will do the same thing. A metal fire is
one of the most difficult to extinguish. Believe it or not ABC dry chemical
works in the same way bonding itself to the object that is on fire and coating
it so oxygen cannot get through. To the other subject of halon. Life can be
sustained in a concentration of no more than 10 percent of halon 1301.
Computer rooms were designed for concentrations of no morre than 5 percent. I
have been through numerous discharge tests and at 50 years old am still here
to tell about it. If you would like more details and a run down of how this
works or any fire fighting agent works e-mail me directly and let's go back to
talking about Alfas, and put an end to this discussion.
