spider tanking up gripe

Hi!
   as a long time early 70s spider driver, & ~9 month digest participator
   i'm surprized to never have seen anything about what has to be the most
   annoying thing about these cars, tanking up!
   has anyone found some trick or gadget to avoid squeezing the lever on the
   fill nozzle the smallest possible amount & still having it trip off
   regularly, resulting in it taking ~15 minutes to put 11 gallons in the tank?
