Intermittent speedo

The speedo in my 33 1.5ie works intermittently. Usually it occurs when the car
goes over hard areas such as humps etc. I thought it was the common connection
problem and stripped the speedo. Cleaned and tightened the joints but the
speedo
still won't work. What other areas should I look at ???
