How do YOU lube a speedo cable?

This is regarding the old style 101-105 speedo cables that snake their
way thru the firewall back to the rear of the tranny. I've lubricated
them before, but I was wondering what the collective wisdom on this
task was. I've got one that's starting to howl. You just never know
what pearls may fall from this forum. So how do YOU lube a speedo cable?
