RE: GTV-6 suspension settings & genteel discourse

me in this manner! :>)

I don't at all mind being compared to dug, it's the 'gentlemen' part I'm not
too sure about- and, while we're at it, 'respected' seems a bit - well --
somewhat exaggerated.

at least mr. sedon didn't do me upper-case. that wood a bin outa line.

Mr. Thomas (if he will accept the capitalization, which is done in good faith,
no disrespect intended) will have noticed that dug's recommendations and mine
differ in a few respects. dug has been around a while, and has forgotten more
about gee-tee-whee-sexes than I will ever know. Mr. Thomas, if he is as wise
as I think he is, will interpolate between us and the manuals worlds of
information which will serve him well in the future. He expressed concerns
about suddenly unloaded sprung parts going Bwangg! and flying across the
garage, (perhaps, although he didn't say it, performing eyeballectomies on the
way); I gave the procedure for unloading the torsion bars which is given in
the manual; dug, who knows where to be out of the way when things fly apart,
skipped that stage and saved a minute. Jake will observe that there is more
than one way to skin a cat, and so long as neither he nor those dear to him
lose skin in the process it is his choice.

In a reply to another set of questions dug rote in ad7-200
>> alfas are WERY responsive to mods, and there are lots out there. altho,
this is a subject that rears its head from time to time - some alfa 'purists'
think it's blasphemy to modify what was done at the factory!<<

The most contentious brouhaha about purism vs. modifications briefly involved
several 'modifiers' up against one 'purist' who had worked closely with the
factory on developing comprehensive performance and handling modifications for
the Alfa Romeos of an earlier generation. That 'purist' left, to my lasting
regret. It is no loss to him.

Alfa Romeo at certain past times did a remarkable job of balancing competing
considerations of performance, handling, practicality, marketability, cost,
etcetera. Often, in the resulting cars, one variable can be enhanced by the
sacrifice of another. Jake's car, judging from his tale of what scraped and
how the tires wore, is a classic case of ignorant trashing by a previous owner
bent on 'improving' it, which is what gave this list's short-term #1 purist
metaphorical ulcers. My GTV-6, if it ever gets back together, will be factory
spec on suspension trim, tires, and almost everything else, (although I would
be glad to have a Platinum gearbox, and will be diddling with some aesthetic
elements). dug's gee-tee-whee-sex would undoubtedly beat mine around Summit
Point, but I will have quite enough pleasure in daily road-use. I trust Jake
will make his own decisions carefully and enjoy his own results.

Cordially,

John H.
