Forgot to mention in my earlier post on starters that the conversion was
extremely popular, and if I had an earlier car which had spent 25-30 years
with one or more knowledgeable owners in cold country I would crawl under with
calipers and measure the starter's o.d. (to compare with a known late starter)
before assuming that my car didn't already have the big one
