I just changed my insurance over to Hagerty and they are charging me $164 for
both my 61 101 spider and my 74 GTV. This is almost what I was paying J C
Taylor for the 61 spider alone, and it is better coverage. $100K -liability
/$35K- uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist each/and 5k - medical.
Hagerty's philosophy being marine insurers, is that you set the value of the
car and they pay the entire amount if written off. No adjusters or
depreciation. Also they consider that a collector can only drive one car at a
time so the rates are the same whether you have one car or twenty. There is no
limit re-mileage (Taylor is 2500 p.a.) as long as it is within reason and not
the car is not used for work, daily transport, shopping and racing and
rallying. Only club events and vacations and weekend joyrides, which is fine
with me,m for that kind of savings (the GTV was costing me about $800 p.a.
through State Farm and now that it has been restored not only will the payoff
be considerably more, but I be driving it less, and more careful how I do
drive it.
