Re: GTV6 suspension geometry

I finally got around to installing the suspension parts I had
sitting around for my Alfetta GT and thought anyone else considering
stiffening things up might find this info helpful. I started by putting in
a set of used torsion bars from an early GTV6. I think they are 23.5mm or
so. I also put in the 27mm front sway bar from AR Ricambi. I set the ride
hight to around 25" measured from the ground to the top of the front wheel
well. I left the back end for the next weekend.
On my first test drive I found that there was a little bit of
oversteer when I pushed it hard, but that the ride and body roll were both
fantastic. It is a little bit harsher, but not overly so. If I was only
going to mess with the front end I think I would have gone with a thinner
roll bar to keep it a little more ballanced.
Last weekend I put in the 22mm rear sway bar and 121lbs/in. rear
springs to lower the rear end an inch. I also changed the rear transaxle
mount while I was in there (major pain in the ...). Now it feels like it
corners on rails. Very little body roll and very well ballanced. I do get
some bump steer, but it is not bad. Maybe fiddling with the watts linkage
lengths would help to fix that. I have not changed the shocks yet so that
could be a factor. The fronts are stock SPICA units, the rears are
Bilstein. I would highly recommend all of these parts to anyone who wants
to improve the handling of their Alfetta.
