GTV Fuel Gauge Fixed!

This is a public thank-you to Scott Fisher, Simon Favre and Dave Pratt. All
three of them suggested that my problem was a bad ground. I gently explained
to the the first two that the sensor flange was clean and the screws
bright-and-shiny. Besides, this problem seemed to start instantly when I
got a *really* full tank of gas one day.

Well, after Dave weighed in with the same opinion I thought I'd better
go check. Guess what I found? All of the tank hold-down screws but one
were loose and all of them were dirty and/or rusty. Dave suggested running
a separate ground wire but instead I spent a few minutes with my itty-bitty
Dremmel wire wheel (do you realize that's the second time this week I've
used the term "itty-bitty" on the digest?) polishing the underside of the
screw heads and about 1" of the shaft, both sides of the washers and as
much of the tank area around the mounting hole as I could reach. Voila'
as the French say, problem solved.

This still doesn't explain why the problem seemed to start immediately
after buying a really full tank of gas. Perhaps the extra weight forced
the flange to distort enough that the last itty-bitty (there I go again)
bit of good ground parted from the surrounding structure.

As for the bizzare behavior of Grant's Spider's fuel gauge (which didn't
want to read in the middle except under a full moon or something) I
really haven't a clue.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
