Hi All -
I recently tested my modified '83 Spider on a two wheel chassis
dynamometer. For the curious, I've scanned the graph and posted it on
my web site at http://world.std.com/~legelisj/dyno.jpg.
Vital Stats:
- - HP measured at rear wheels: 119hp at 6000 rpm.
- - Corrected flywheel HP, assuming 15% drivetrain loss: 140hp
- - Corrected flywheel HP, assuming 20% drivetrain loss: 148hp
- - For comparison, stock flywheel HP for an '83 Spider is rated at 117hp
Observations:
- - Mighty sinuous torque curve, including suspicious drop around 3500rpm
- - Noisy data in second (red) run. Could have been due to a problem
with dyno, because it stop working shortly thereafter.
- - Next time I'll let the motor pull to 7k, although it's pretty clear
the power is begining to tail off by 6k.
Engine Modifications on 2 Liter Bosch-injected motor:
- - Sperry Port and Polish, Big Valves (in. & ex.)
- - Shankle 7L Cams
- - Shankle Headers
- - Cat bypass pipe used for testing
- - Modified AF sensor
- - Uprated ignition/wires
Comments:
- - Does anyone have any dyno #'s on a *stock* '80's Spider. I'd love to
have a more accurate value for drivetrain loss.
- - Any ideas on how to flatten the dip in the torque curve? A friend has
suggested it could be due to exhaust tuning.
Regards,
John Legelis
