Another conspiracy theory!  If the positions were reversed, i.e. the 164 hit
the Volvo, I think the 164 would have shown the same level of damage as the
Volvo did.  They both have front crumple zones to absorb such impact and to
keep those forces from impacting the passangers.  It is indeed fine
engineering and your scoff seems misplaced.  What is some bent sheet metal
compared to the lives of the occupants?
