LS remote system for the locks/alarm not properly installed?

One thing My Alfa mechanic & I have learned about the LS is that its
remote system for the locks/alarm was not properly installed.
  
Something about the final locking sequence after programming the
remotes.  This was a step during Predelivery Inspection (PDI).  If it's
not done right, the module in the car continues to try to store codes
until the 256 position memory is filled up and no new codes can ever be
added. The Fix is to buy a $350 chip and reprogram your remotes?

Anyone else had to deal with this issue?  Other solutions, plug in some
custom transmitter reciever from the down the street alarm shop and use
the rest of the Alfa System?
