My response was aimed at the tyro, someone getting into Alfas for the first
time - NOT the cognoscenti. The 74 is the best model for the newbie to get
into, firstly as there is an adequate (although dwindling) supply of used cars
always coming on the market. (How many 67s or even 71s do you see for sale in
the Bay Area or at the swap meets ?) There are plenty of new and used parts
available for the 74 but not for earlier models, and plenty of good shops to
work on all of them. The 74 is relatively cheap to run and has few problems
with the SPICA f.i. system, a big plus if the buyer has NO previous experience
with Webers. Also few problems with engine maintenance and smog eqpt. and as
Jack mentioned only two (in my case) or three more smog checks to worry about
unless Sacto. politicos rear their pointy heads again.
