turn signal separation

     I think it was dictated by US regs.  Euro and other market Alfas of 
     the time had the parking lights/turn signals directly under the 
     headlights, right on the body.  I believe US regulations (probably 
     implemented in 1968, a watershed year for US safety regs: side marker 
     lights, headrests, shoulder belts, among others) required more 
     physical separation of the lights, so that the turn signal/parking 
     light would not get lost in the glare of the much-brighter headlight.  
     Any former NTSB members on the Digest?
