Hi Fred,

Thanks for the response. I'm sure he's not lying ... he keeps Mobil 1 in
stock for other than SPICA cars ... but he might be working from old
information that is no longer valid. As I said in my original note, he has
no idea why Alfa's service bulletin said not to use synthetic oil in cars
equipped with SPICA injection, and he's fairly knowledgeable (he was
Alfa Romeo's Western Technical Rep for about 6 or 7 years in the '80s). 

If synthetics (and Mobil 1) are proven safe to use, it would be a boon to
me and to him as the cars run better on it and his customers will be
happier. He cares that the cars run well and that the customers are happy,
in that order from what I've seen. And he's done a great job getting my
neglected Spider from the shoddy state it was in when I pulled it out of a
friend's garage where it was turning into junk up to a very reliable,
solid, sweet running Alfa again. :)
