Rejuvenating old exterior rubber ???

     Does anyone have any good method(s) for restoring exteior rubber parts 
     (like bumper inserts, and such).
     
     I've heard of people using a fine grit sand paper to remove the "signs 
     of time", but I'm leary of this. 
     
     Also any knowledge of chemical products like "forever black" or "black 
     again" ?

     I rather not do anything than risk making it look worst than it is 
     already.
