strange spider

In response to John Katos' query re: cranking speed diminishing when the
clutch pedal is depressed.... Any chance that the engine could have
been assembled without benefit of the thrust bearings or worn to the
extent that they fell out? Just a thought. In this instance pressure
exerted on the rear of the crank when depressing the clutch could be
forcing the crank forward and into the block and bearing caps.

And now a question of my own, how about advice on the care and feeding
of a hartz style cloth convertible top?
