Hello Tony, the bits on the badge signify the following:
6-legged "cat": This is the she-wolf that suckled Romulus and
Remus, twin brothers that were left orphaned in the woods near present
day Rome, found by the she-wolf and nursed until "of age..." Romulus
went on to found "Rome" and I don't know as though Remus ever amounted to
anything ( but I hear he had a famous "Uncle"). If you look closely,
you'll undoubtedly see the teets on the wolf from which the brothers
nursed. Note that also this is the symbol used by Agip.
S.P.Q.R: Abbreviation for "Senatus PopulusQue Romanus," or
"Senate of the People of Rome." During the Roman Empire these initials
were used on military standards, official government documents, decrees,
threats to other countries, poets etc. Essentially, its like saying "the
people of Rome, by way of their senate, decree...."
So what you seem to have is a badge from a Roma car club, who would
undoubtedly have used the historical symbols of their city, and most
likely still exist as a club. Always looking for ways to implement my
education in the "classics." Regards,
Adam Doherty
