Hatch Release

This morning I broke the hatch release in my 1987 Sprint. It appears to
be the cable that has broken(didn't have time to trace this morning!)
and would appreciate any knowledge on repair. In the mean time, does
anyone know of an emergency hatch release? I recall a couple of years
ago, that there was an emergency boot release in the 75. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.
