Watch out when using old shims. The chamfered stem of the valve can make an
indentation inside the shim; if you then reuse this shim on another valve
that has a different chamfer, the shim will not be fully seated on the stem.
It's very puzzling to end up with improper valve lash even though you
scientifically calculated the proper shim size.

Alfa introduced harder valve shims in the early 80's, along with the V6.
They have a black finish instead of the bright look of the earlier shims.
