[alfa] Renu gas tank

Just got my GTV gas tank back from the RENU shop in Rockville, Md. I
brought it in on Friday and it was finished by Tuesday - they are closed on
weekends - pretty fast work.

Just looking at the interior thru the fuel gauge opening, all the surfaces
were red as if a primer coat had been sprayed on. The surfaces looked clean
with no apparent rusty areas anywhere. They had to cut holes in the side of
the tank to allow them blast the interior down to bare metal. If any metal
is missing or blasted away, they will Mig weld in new metal.

99% of the exterior had a thick, black coating which had been rolled on with
a long-napped roller (probably the kind used to paint cement block). The
surface was quite irregular. The threaded portion of the filler neck, the
ends of all push-on connectors for fuel&vent lines, and the fuel gauge
sending opening had been taped off to prevent being coated by the black
stuff which revealed the primer underneath. A small metal tag had been
embedded in the black stuff which had a Renu number on it for the life time
guarantee.

It might not have the appearance of a original tank from the outside, but
you can paint over the black stuff which I will do with some silver
rattle-can spray paint. The shop owner who has been a RENU dealer for about
20 years told me to attach a ground wire to the fuel gauge sender since the
black stuff really insulates the tank from the chassis - I had already done
this when the tank was in the car because of a non-ground.

Before putting the tank in the car, I need to make a decision about Andy K's
Watts linkage setup since some body modification needs to been done nearby
the tank to install it. I don't want to pull it twice....the rubber gas
tank 'boot' is a job that leaves my hands scared and tired from all the
pushing&shoving&cajoling&cursing to get it into place.

RENU also does motorcycle tanks but doesn't put the black stuff on the
outside. They are guaranteed for only 1 year.
