Re: [alfa] Front Pulley Failure

Unlike the 1959 Giulietta Sprint I =had where the seal was installed from
the inside. Back in 1961, the dealer wanted over $450 to replace it. I had
detailed drawings of he engine and together with a tool maker friend of
mine devised a tool to mount on the crank (after the pulley hub was
removed) to cut out the lip that held it in. We pulled the spark plugs and
used the starter motor to spin it while periodically tightening the
pressure using the center bolt hole in the crank. Then, with another
cutting blade, cut a groove for a snap ring to act as a backstop. Only took
a couple of hours to R&R the seal and all was well. I think I may still
have the tool buried deep in my "junque" box!

I noted that on my '65 Sprint GT, Alfa had discovered their mistake and the
seal was installed from the front!
