[alfa] hydraulic handbrakes

Benjamin asks about hydraulic handbrake legality (in Australia). They are illegal in Australia, although I believe that this is only if you remove the original cable (or whatever) arrangement. They are commonly used in rally cars to help ease the car around tight corners (operating on the rear wheels). My next door neighbour has a tarmac rally car (Targa Tasmania and Classic Adelaide type competitions) and he is even thinking about installing a hydraulic handbrake to help get the car turning into tight corners (understeering 240 Z). And before you suggest that he sets his car up properly to avoid this, certain suspension modifications will place the car into more modified categories, which he doesn't want to do. He has 35 years rallying (off road and tarmac) experience and is currently the Koni distributor and suspension specialist in Australia so I reckon he probably knows a little about what he is doing!
