[alfa] Valve shims

Not my most exciting purchase, but just bought a boxed set of the 
smaller sized valve shims. What is the little stone on a short rod for? 
First, at least on mine, it is waaay crooked, so wouldn't work as any 
kind of a grinding tool. But you get a complete set and they include a 
grinder to grind a larger one down to fit? Seems a bit strange.

When purchasing was told not to reuse old shims since they cup inside 
and it is difficult to get an accurate reading as to their exact size. 
Will admit I've frequently reused old ones, but will also admit I often 
find I'm off by a few or several thousandths on the first and second 
tries - and I do like to be accurate.

I sure wish the box was marked in inches rather than meters / metric. 
Since I use a feeler gauge and note the gap in inches, it's nice to then 
use the inch measurement for the shims.

So whens the rest of the world going to switch to inches and pounds?
