I don't know about the esteemed part; however, I just did this on my 71.
Drilled through wheel well and put a big washer on the under side. I can
take some pix tomorrow.

     I need some help from the esteemed digesters please. I am installing 
some 3 pt. belts in my 73 spider and am trying to figure out the best way to

mount the retract mechanism in the rear area. The original mounting point
for the 
lap belt retractor is probably not the best way to go unless there is 
something I have not thought about as it is awkward at best. I can bet that
someone 
out there has retrofitted some units into an older spider. Where and how are
the 
later model spiders mounted? Does anyone have a picture of their setup, or 
would be willing to take a pic or two of how their's is mounted?
