[alfa] A/C compressor life span

Reading recent discussion of 164 A/C problem make me wonder what cause short
life of a/c compressor. I don't know what typical life span of everyone A/C
compressor is. But I have four cars from 92- 94 years with mileage ranging
from 110K miles to 170K miles. None of them require A/C compressor
replacement yet and they all requirement minimum attention. I converted 92
164S from R12 to R143A four years ago and it wasn't as cold as before
especially when sitting still with engine idling. But it is performing
about the same as 94 164LS which came with R143A since new. The 92 VW
Corrado with 170K miles owned since new had been converted to R143A eight
years ago doesn't seem to suffer a bit of performance. The cold air is so
strong that I can't bear set it to coldest setting for more than a few
minutes even in 100F outside temp. It has been recharged only twice since
1992 new. The 92 BMW M5 is the only one still R12 I think, I don't know
what Freon is inside, but it is about as cold as VW's A/C since I owned it
three years ago, no service required. I never turn off a/c all year round,
I only adjust a/c temperature.
