I sounds like it came on all of a sudden, right? I agree with Jeff. Sounds like a broken compensator link spring. Depending on where it broke, you might be able to reattach it at the top in a few minutes. Alfabb.com has a thread and pictures on how to do that. Replacing the entire spring in-situ is a challenge if you don't have surgical skill.
