I'm thinking not to worry too much about the questionable intake valve. 
It could get worse, or not.  I've never heard of a bad valve causing 
the intake runner on fire.  As a matter of fact, I can't even conceive 
of this as a possibility.  (But, I've been wrong before.)  I'd say, 
"drive it."  Alfas, as you've figured out, often have a way of fixing 
themselves.
