[alfa] Milano Paint Code AR768

Scott Buie writes " I have an 87 Milano Verde on which I need to do some painting. The paint code on the trunk sticker says AR768, however, DuPont and both of the locations mentioned in past digests and postings only list a 728. I had my local paint shop mix me up a pint of AR728, and I sprayed a replacement fender. The color is more of a silver than my original color, which is more of a gunmetal grey. Does anyone know of a more comprehensive paint code list or have any knowledge of an AR768 paint code?"

Alfa had at least twenty different grey metallics, by my informal count, from the late sixties through the eighties, and probably twenty more since then. AR728 is one of the oldies from the Giulia Body Shop Manual; the last reference I find to it is in an ARI touch-up-paint listing as a "pre-1981" color. The elusive AR768 does show up as a Milano color on an ARI technical Bulletin #88-01, date 7/18/1988, with a DuPont code 8921, a Sherwin-Williams code 38906, and a Ditzler-PPG code 34538, each number with prefixes or suffixes according to the paint type (acrylic lacquer , acrylic enamel, etc) behind the manufacturer's promotional name (Centari, Cronar, Deltron, etc.) Scott's supplier probably has out-of-date listings, and I would look for another, and always grab any data I could off the trunk sticker if it still exists.

Enjoy yours,

John H.
