Re: [alfa] shipping car parts

Hi Benjamin:

I've had parts shipped from Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, and a few other places without any trouble, or unreasonable shipping rates. Two years ago I bought a set of Cromodora wheels from OK Parts in Germany, and shipping for all 4 was ~$80, with transit time of only 10 days. At around the same time, I bought a complete Dellorto carb setup (carbs, manifold, linkage, air cleaner) from Italy, which was packed in two large, heavy boxes, and shipping was around $40. That one came by slow boat, though, and took about 6 weeks for transit, but I wasn't in a hurry. This year I've placed a few small orders with Highwood and Alfaholics in the UK and Hurtienne in Germany, and shipping was both cheap and quick, with arrival times of 7 - 10 days. Small boxes of trim pieces and electrical stuff cost around $15 to ship. I have also had some large items like interior trim panels shipped from Hurtienne, and my method of cutting shipping costs is to load the order with small items, which essentially ship for free within the large box for the trim panels. I always see if friends need any small stuff, and then we split the shipping costs. All the vendors I've mentioned have been a pleasure to deal with, and have experience shipping to the US, so if you've got specific questions for them about shipping, go ahead and ask before you order. My only complaint is that the dollar is so weak now against the Pound and Euro.

Has anyone had any experience shipping large parts
from Germany to Australia (or any other country outside
of Europe)? I'm looking to get some panels and wheels
sent over without having to mortgage the house!
