i was unaware that convertibles got an out. by 1972, i know
     that all
tintops had to have shoulder belts in the US.

I have a 1979 Spider that also seems to have only lap belts. I have
seen no sign of a shoulder belt, such as I have seen in a 1986 car. I
hope this helps a bit, instead of adding to the confusion. If someone
tells me my car has had the shoulder belts excised, I'll probably try to
find replacements.

Thanks
