[alfa] Canvas Convertible Top "conditioner"?

I'm trying revive a 79 spider that has not run for years.  The top has been 
up for at least three years and until 6 months ago (when it went into a dry 
garage), it had spent at least two years outside with a cotton car cover 
over it.  The top looks to be in excellent condition, it is canvas, not 
vinyl, and is very taut and tight.  I suspect that during its many cycles 
of wet and dry, that it has shrunk.

I was thinking that it looks a bit dry, and I want to lower the top.  Is 
there any chemical or preservative that would be good to apply to the top 
before I lower it?  I'm concerned that it might be dry and crack or 
split.  Any web sites that have information on this subject?  What about 
maintenance or care for the plastic window?

Would Leatherique Rejuvenator oil be an appropriate treatment for the canvas?
