Subject: [alfa] Fuel Injection Hose Clamp Problem

I have a fuel injection hose clamp question: Jeff Greenfield has installed
the "Type G" hose clamps and the BMW spec hoses on my 164S, but the clamps
keep backing off, causing large quantities of Mobile Premium spray around
the engine compartment. They have been tightened down several times and
seem to work loose over time. This problem is not limited to a single
clamp, as a number of them were loose and three were leaking (one
profusely).

I'm thinks about putting an extra nut on each of the little bolts used in
the clamps, sort of a double-nutting approach to keep this from happening
again. I guess Lock-tight would be another approach.

Has anyone else had this problem. Why does it happen, and is there a
preferred solution?

Thanks,
Rex in Albany
I've never heard of this happening before, but I'd recommend green Loctite (I think it's green--the kind that's meant to be applied to a fastener after it's been tightened, and seep its way into the threads) rather than extra nuts. Are you sure the clamps are the right size for the hoses? If they're BMW FI clamps on BMW FI hose, I can't imagine why they wouldn't be.
