[alfa] Fuelling problems

You have classic failure symptoms of the pre pump common in older fuel injection systems. The pump is actually two pumps, a pre pump fills the chamber surrounding the main pump and prevents cavitation of the main pump. When the pre pump fails the main pump often cavitates, especially when the tank is nearly empty or conditions are warm. Modern FI returns hot fuel to the tank via the fuel pressure regulator. This hot fuel encourages fuel pump cavitation.

For this reason it is not advisable to run the tank nearly dry. The less fuel you have the hotter the tank gets and the pre pump is often a casualty of this heat.
