[alfa] 164 Steering Wheel Alignment

Sorry - I've deleted the original digest on this one, so I don't know to
whom I'm addressing the reply.

The steering wheel shouldn't go out of alignment. If it has, it means that
something in the steering itself is out. Quite possibly the tie-rod ends
are wearing out. To check this, jack up the front of the car, and holding
the wheels in the "quarter to three" position, rock them gently. You
should eb able to feel any free play. (Another symptom of this is the
steering feeling "loose" in the centre position.) Changing the tie-rods is
a biggish job, but I've done it in the driveway with the front on stands.

If everything feels tight, you probably have some sort of alignment
problem. Time for a visit to your alignment shop!

Hope this is helpful!

Cheers,
