manual box conversion

the stag manual box uses a one piece housing for both the gearbox and clutch
bellhousing. the stag utilizes an adaptor plate of about a 2 inch thickness
to adapt the gearbox to the back of the stag engine. i am no expert, but
attempting to adapt a different gearbox to work on the stag would involve
considerable engineering and machinists skills. the stag manual box is very
similar to period tr6 gearboxes, with various modifications however. i belive
the sd1 uses the rover 3.5 engine with 5-speed, similar to a tr8. i HAVE a
tr8, and would never attempt to adapt a tr8 tranny to work in a stag. the
stag had some design imperfections, but if properly maintained can be nice.
modifications are more trouble than they are worth in my opinion. jeff ware.
