'Blipping' the Throttle

HI All,

Has anyone, like myself, been brought up with classic cars and told to blip
the throttle briefly before turning off the ignition?
The rationale is that the bearings will be primed for the next start due to
the short increase in pressure and, if a mechanical fuel pump is fitted, the
float chamber on the carb will be full. Does it make any sense? Does anyone
else do it?
Regards
Mike
